Chapter 4D: The Delectable Distraction
You rummage through your pack, searching for the perfect pastry to tempt the Knob of Knowledge. Your fingers close around a particularly flaky and buttery croissant, and you hold it up with a triumphant grin.
“Oh, Knob of Knowledge,” you say, your voice dripping with charm, “would this delectable croissant persuade you to grant us passage? Its buttery layers are sure to melt your resolve!”
The doorknob's eyes widen, and it sniffs the air, catching the tantalizing aroma of the freshly baked pastry. “Oh my, that does smell divine,” it says, its voice wavering with temptation. “I suppose I could make an exception, just this once. But don't tell the other doors, or they'll all want a taste!”
You chuckle and hold out the croissant, allowing the Knob of Knowledge to take a generous bite. It savors the flaky, buttery goodness, letting out a contented sigh.
“Mmm, delicious!” the doorknob declares, licking its lips (wait, do doorknobs have lips?). “Alright, adventurer, you've won me over with your culinary bribery. You and your feathered friend may pass!”
With a click and a creak, the ornate door swings open, revealing the path forward. Colonel Clucks lets out a “Bawk!” of delight, and you can't help but smile at your own ingenuity.
“Thank you, Knob of Knowledge,” you say, giving the doorknob a friendly pat. “Your taste in pastries is impeccable!”
The doorknob chuckles and winks. “Well, you know what they say: a well-fed doorknob is a happy doorknob! Now, go forth and conquer the challenges that await. And if you happen to come across any more of those delightful croissants, you know where to find me!”
With a final nod of thanks and a shared laugh, you and Colonel Clucks step through the doorway, ready to face whatever the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreads has in store.
