Chapter 6B: The Bakery Bribe
You rummage through your pack, searching for the perfect pastry to tempt the sphinx. Your fingers close around a delectable danish, its sweet aroma wafting through the air.
“Oh, Guardian of Giggles,” you say, your voice dripping with charm, “would this delightful danish persuade you to let us pass? Its flaky crust and sweet filling are sure to tickle your funny bone!”
The sphinx's eyes widen, and she sniffs the air, catching the tantalizing scent of the pastry. “Mmm, that does smell delicious,” she says, her voice wavering with temptation. “I suppose I could make an exception, just this once. But don't tell the other adventurers, or they'll all want a taste!”
You chuckle and hold out the danish, allowing the sphinx to take a generous bite. She savors the sweet, flaky goodness, letting out a contented sigh.
“Oh my, that is divine!” the sphinx declares, licking her lips. “Alright, adventurer, you've won me over with your culinary bribery. You and your feathered friend may pass through the door and continue your quest.”
With a rumble and a groan, the ornate door swings open, revealing the path forward. Colonel Clucks lets out a “Bawk!” of delight, and you can't help but grin at your own ingenuity.
“Thank you, Guardian of Giggles,” you say, giving the sphinx a friendly pat. “Your taste in pastries is impeccable!”
The sphinx chuckles and winks. “Well, you know what they say: laughter may be the best medicine, but pastries are a close second! Now, go forth and conquer the challenges that await. And if you happen to come across any more of those delightful danishes, you know where to find me!”
With a final nod of thanks and a shared laugh, you and Colonel Clucks step through the doorway, ready to face whatever the Dungeon of Dreadful Dreads has in store.
